Enough complaints about the lack of culture in Los Angeles! This city is not simply a hub for the film industry and plastic surgery, there is far more than awaits the eye. LA is bursting with culture, whether its art, design, opera, ballet or theatre. After living here for a few years now, I am absolutely convinced that this town is full of resources and if you are looking for it, you will find it!!
No need to mention that LA has a burgeoning and hip art scene, home to the LACMA, MOCA, Hammer Museum, Getty, Gagosian Gallery and growing art fairs... Not only you can find gallery openings, artists’ introductions and great Museum events every single night of the week but there is even more for all those culture junkies running wild out there.
Few months ago, I got super excited after discovering the LA Opera’s website and realizing the rich lineup they had for the 08-09 Opera season. You can imagine that I jumped on the occasion when I saw that “Madama Butterfly” was playing and made it to the play last minute. Obviously you shouldn’t be expecting the plays and the setup to be anything like all the major Opera’s such as Salzburg, Paris, London or New York’s but the experience is still lovingly enjoyable.
If you are looking forward to it as I did, then you should absolutely check out the rest of the lineup for 09 and give it a try!!

My must see picks of the season:
- Mozart’s “Magic Flute” (starts January 10th until the 25th) and Verdi’s “Traviata” will probably be the two most anticipated plays on the LA Opera schedule.
- Most promising Art opening: CARSTEN HÖLLER at the Gagosian Gallery in Beverly Hills. Opening reception will be this Saturday January the 10th, from 6 to 8 pm. The exhibit will go until February 14th 2009. for more info check out: http://www.gagosian.com/exhibitions/2009-01-10_carsten-holler/
Bonus: below is a sneak pic on Carsten Höller's coming opening.
